All these rumours flying around about Central Michigan Football Coach Butch Jones heading to West Virginia got me to thinking about who our new coach could possibly be. If Butch Jones decided to leave, which i hope he doesn't, I believe these to be our top choices to replace him. Chuck Martin, Grand Valley State University, Head Coach Coach Martin is currently the head coach for the winningest program in DII football. In his first four years as head coach for the team, Martin has won the Division 2 Football Championship twice. He also a 40-4 record as head coach.
Dave Christenson, Missouri Offensive Coordinator
The first person that came to mind was Missouri Offensive Coordinator Dave Christenson. Christenson is easily one of the best offensive coordinators/assistant coaches in the country. He is credited with implementing the spread offense in Missouri. In 2006,despite losing one of the best quarterbacks in Missouri history, Missouri still finished 8th in the nation in offense. Christenson has been nominated for Broyles Award, an award given to the top assistant coach in the country, in 2002,2003, and in 2007.
Jeff Quinn, Cincinnati, Offensive Coordinator
Jeff Quinn is a former Central Michigan Associate Head Coach. He coached the Chippewas to victory in the 2006 Motor City Bowl as the interim head coach. Here is what Quinn had to say when he left Central Michigan to go to Cincinnati. "I was informed that they were not ready to name a head coach yet and so I decided to take a position with Brian Kelly at Cincinnati," Quinn said. "I was in a position where I was without a job and had to make a decision. If Central Michigan came and asked to hire me or go on with a further interview, I would absolutely love to be in Mt. Pleasant, but there just has not been the communication for that."
Craig Bohl, North Dakota State University, Head Coach
Craig Bohl has been successful since taking over the Head Coaching position North Dakota State four years ago. It was Bohl's goal when he first took over to win the DII Championship. So far, he has not accomplished this goal. In 2007, North Dakota State lost to Grand Valley State early in the playoffs. His only negative is that he doesn't run the spread offense.
In related news, I have heard rumours that West Virginia will announce Butch Jones as their head coach sometime today. I will keep you posted.

Is Butch Jones Leaving the Chippewas Again?
Shortly before I started this blog, there was news flying around about Central Michigan Football Coach Butch Jones. There were rumours that he was being considered for the Head Coach position at the Univeristy of West Virginia where he was the wide receiver coach from 2005-2006. I decided not to post anything on it but now rumours are starting to look more like reality. He had his second interview Thursday just one day after losing to Purdue in the Motor City Bowl. The Central Michigan football coach led the Chippewas to a 8-6 record and their second straight MAC Championship though they did not win the Motor City Bowl, I know that they impressed a lot of people.
According to most sources, Florida State Assistant Coach Doc Holliday is the favorite to win the head coaching position. Former Auburn Coach Terry Bowden is also being considered for the position.

Central Michigan Football Team Puts up a Good Fight
I woke up the morning off the 26th and all I could think about was the game that night. I was so excited. I wanted the World to see how great Central Michigan Chippewas really is. I talked to a lot of of people prior to the game and everyone seemed to think that the Purdue Boilermakers were going to come into Michigan and embarrass this Central Michigan football team. I don't think so. I even got a call at half time, Mike, whats wrong with your Chippewas. They are down 34-13. I told him, don't count them out yet. He just laughed.
Following the halftime show, I went back to my computer and started watching the game on ESPN 360 like i did in the first half, You could that the Michigan crowd was into the game and the Chippewas were feeding off all that energy. Dan Lefevour led his team to 4 touchdowns in the third quarter. I was really getting excited. Then I got the "feeling". The feeling you get when you know something incredible is about to happen. The feeling that Central Michigan Chippewas are going to win this game. Late in the 4th, Jaycen Taylor rushed for a touchdown. Jason called me and was like the Chippewas did put a fight, too bad. I said these guys arent done yet. He said "Mike, be realistic, there is two minutes and fifteeen seconds left in the game, Central Michigan has no timeouts." Dan Lefevour led his team downfield and scoring again. After being down 34-13 at the half, it was now a tie game. I couldnt help but get excited, it was the greatest feeling in the World. I had to call back Jason and rub it in his face. Everything rested it on Central Michigan's defense. Hmmm. Remember what i said in my preview of this game. I said defense would be the key to this game for the Chippewas. I was all chipped up and now the game rested upon the weak point of the Central Michigan team.
Curtis Painter the leader of the Purdue offense, came out and led his team the field. I am telling you it was the slowest minute of my life. I was hoping our defense would hold them up and then we go into overtime. But Painter made it his mission not to send this game in overtime, he wanted to win now. Painter came out and through 4 out of 5 for 42 yards setting up for Chris Summers. Before the kick, i was almost in tears. I knew the game was pretty much over. All he had to do was kick a field goal and unfortunately for us Central Michigan fans. The game was over.
I want to send my congratulations to the Boilermakers as they won the game. Chris Painter had an amazing game throwing for 546 yards. I am not disappointed at all my Chippewas. They put up a fight and proved to everyone that they did belong on that football field. I wish there was someway, I could show my thanks to all the Central Michigan football players for their great season.

Former Central Michigan University Football Player Eddie Hillery: Where is he now?
Former Central Michigan football player, Eddie Hillery played linebacker for the Chippewas defense in his senior year back in 2003. E-Hill had 49 total tackles, 2 sacks, and had one interception that year. Almost five years later, I came across the Central Michigan graduate.
Q: Eddie, You know what I am going to ask about first. Did you watch the Motor City Bowl?
A: OF COURSE. I was there.
Q: Dan Lefevour is some quarterback isnt he?
A: He is pretty good, i aint gonna lie. he is a joy to watch
Q: What have you been up to since your days at Central Michigan University?
A. Since I graduated, I've been to the police academy, in hopes of becoming a police officer. Most recently though, I played football overseas in Germany this past spring/summer. I am now hoping to catch on whith team Michigan in the newly formed AAFL.
Q: What made you want to play overseas?
A: I had heard of a few of my former teammates playing over there (Robbie mixon, Darvin Lewis and Jon Nelson). Darvin gave a coach there my info and the rest is history
Q: How is the level of play differ from Division 1 college football to that of the the Germany Football League?
A: The level of play wasnt near D-1 ball but is was still challenging. Some of the German players could definitely play over here in the states
Q: A lot of fans may want to keep up with you and follow your stats. Does your team or the Germany Football League have a website where fans can do that?
A: Yes. dresden-monarchs.de , the site is in german but can be translated by using a number of programs. From this site, you can also access the fan sites as well as the sites for the league
Q: What do you miss most about being a Central Michigan football player?
A: My teammates for sure. it was like having 90 brothers
Q: Do you still keep in contact with some of your former teammates?
A: I do. i see them when i go to watch the Chippewas. Also, a lot of us keep in touch through email
Q: Do you have any current favorite players on the Chippewas? Red Keith maybe?
A: Red is my boy! We talk all the time. He was actually behind me during his redshirt year. I taught him everything he knows! (laughing) Red gets me my tickets to all of the games that i attend. He is a great guy. Thats about it though, i dont know anybody else really. Josh Reardon, on of the GA's is a good friend of mine still
Q: What do you think of Central Michigan's coaching situation? Butch Jones heading to VA?
A: I love what Kelly did for the Chips while he was here, and I'm glad that Coach Jones is building on that success. If he leaves, I can't really be mad at him. The West Virginia head coaching job would be a tremendous opportunity for him. I'm not sure if he will leave, but i hope he stays.
Q: How important is it that college football players have the same coach during their college career?
A: I think that it is incredibly important, as a player and a person. It is hard to gain trust quickly, with that being said. The longer one is there the better off one will be.
Q: Anything else you would like to add?
A: I think it is great, that you are doing this website. i am just as curious about former players as everyone else is. Also, to all of the Chippewa fans out there. On behalf of all of the players, past present and future, we all appreciate you. FIRE UP CHIPS!
Thanks alot Eddie, I appreciate your time and I am sure all of my readers do to. Good Luck to you.
