All these rumours flying around about Central Michigan Football Coach Butch Jones heading to West Virginia got me to thinking about who our new coach could possibly be. If Butch Jones decided to leave, which i hope he doesn't, I believe these to be our top choices to replace him. Chuck Martin, Grand Valley State University, Head Coach Coach Martin is currently the head coach for the winningest program in DII football. In his first four years as head coach for the team, Martin has won the Division 2 Football Championship twice. He also a 40-4 record as head coach.
Dave Christenson, Missouri Offensive Coordinator
The first person that came to mind was Missouri Offensive Coordinator Dave Christenson. Christenson is easily one of the best offensive coordinators/assistant coaches in the country. He is credited with implementing the spread offense in Missouri. In 2006,despite losing one of the best quarterbacks in Missouri history, Missouri still finished 8th in the nation in offense. Christenson has been nominated for Broyles Award, an award given to the top assistant coach in the country, in 2002,2003, and in 2007.
Jeff Quinn, Cincinnati, Offensive Coordinator
Jeff Quinn is a former Central Michigan Associate Head Coach. He coached the Chippewas to victory in the 2006 Motor City Bowl as the interim head coach. Here is what Quinn had to say when he left Central Michigan to go to Cincinnati. "I was informed that they were not ready to name a head coach yet and so I decided to take a position with Brian Kelly at Cincinnati," Quinn said. "I was in a position where I was without a job and had to make a decision. If Central Michigan came and asked to hire me or go on with a further interview, I would absolutely love to be in Mt. Pleasant, but there just has not been the communication for that."
Craig Bohl, North Dakota State University, Head Coach
Craig Bohl has been successful since taking over the Head Coaching position North Dakota State four years ago. It was Bohl's goal when he first took over to win the DII Championship. So far, he has not accomplished this goal. In 2007, North Dakota State lost to Grand Valley State early in the playoffs. His only negative is that he doesn't run the spread offense.
In related news, I have heard rumours that West Virginia will announce Butch Jones as their head coach sometime today. I will keep you posted.
